10 Tips To Healthy Eating
Drink lots of water.Water is critical to maintaining a healthy body and plays a key role in detoxifying and re-hydrating the body, as well as in metabolizing food.
The recommendation for adults is between 1.5 to 2 litres a day, and is vital to consume this if you are trying to lose weight
Healthy Eating Guidelines recommend that you eat 5 servings of vegetables and 2 servings of fruits each day.
Fruits and vegetables are low in calories and high in fibre and are crucial in any healthy eating
or weight management plan. These foods contain a range of valuable nutrients and have many health benefits
Include high fibre carbohydrates in your diet such as whole grains, and cut back on refined starchy foods and sugary foods.
Refined bad carbohydrates are converted to glucose rapidly, which over time, this can lead to health problems such as type 2 diabetes, and weight gain.
Have 2 servings of low-fat dairy products each day, such as milk, cheese and yoghurt.
These foods are packed with calcium, protein and other nutrients, beneficial to building strong bones.
Including low fat dairy products in your diet can facilitate weight loss
Include proteins with each meal, as proteins are the building blocks of our bodies.
Eating high protein food at each meal also helps reduce the appetite.
Include 2 fish meals a week, especially those high in omega 3 fats such as salmon and tuna, and also nuts, seeds and legumes.
Cut back on saturated fats and trans fats, found in fast foods, fatty meats, cream, butter and cheese and refined cooking oils.
Replace these with healthier fats such as extra virgin olive oil, and low-fat products where possible
Reduce your salt intake. This will reduce your risk of developing high blood pressure.
Use herbs, healthy spices, vinegar and lemon juice to add flavour to your cooking
Have caffeine in moderate amounts only. Tea contains less caffeine than coffee and is a better choice due to the antioxidants it contains.
Green Tea is an even better choice, and can help reduce the risks of cancer and heart disease.
Limit your alcohol intake. Alcohol is a widely abused substance and is responsible for many deaths each year.
It can increase the risk of heart disease, and as it is comparatively high in glycemic load, can exacerbate weight problems as well.
Cut back on the consumption of soft drinks, as these are highly acidic, and often laden with sugar and caffeine.
Make water your beverage of choice.
